Police Power Out of Control

UHP (Utah Highway Patrol) tasers this man in front of pregnant wife and baby over an alleged speeding ticket. The Utah UHP Office ruled that Officer Gardner acted “reasonably”.

As you can hear, Officer Gardner keeps repeating the victim should have followed his instructions. Sadly, overzealous cops have been given tools that enable them to terrorize Americans when they do not obey or cooperate (even when you are innocent of wrongdoing or do not understand what is going on). If you do not comply with law enforcement officers (it doesn’t matter if you are guilty of a crime or if there is a problem of mistaken identity, etc.), and if you resist arrest and obstruct justice (in the minds of the law), then you will be punished by handcuffing, jail time, fines, a criminal record, and now even the deadly TASER!

I suppose the time has come that when a citizen is told to do something by the police, they have several options… do it, be punished for it, or resist. American citizens are being pushed into a corner where they will soon need to arm themselves more heavily to be protected from the state police force. In this case, the terrorized wife might have protected her family by throwing that Jeep into reverse and pinning that pig against his patrol car the moment he pulled his taser out.

This is not an isolated incident. Numerous examples have been documented where police have overstepped the bounds of civility and meted out harsh and unjust treatment to innocent people.

Ex-NFL player Timothy Worley was tasered by Georgia police for “becoming confrontational” at a traffic stop according to news reports, but the video shows that the extent of Worley’s aggression was merely pointing at the cop and raising his voice.

Charges Will Not be Filed in Goodyear Worker’s Death
No criminal charges will be filed in the death of a Goodyear worker, who passed away after being tased by Shawnee County Sheriff’s deputies.

Shawnee County District Attorney Robert Hecht released his report Tuesday on the March 29th death of 59-year old Walter Haake. The report says Haake had suffered a head injury in a fall at his home the night before his death. It says Haake had been incoherent at work and fellow workers tried to deter him from driving when he left the plant. Shawnee County Sheriff’s Deputies were called in when Haake refused to get out of his vehicle.

“Mre Haake physcially resisted removal, leaving the officers in the position of simply leaving him in the vehicle and letting the medical condition play out or using such force as may be required to remove him,” Hecht wrote in the report.

The deputies chose to remove Haake by tazing him, then restraining him. The coroner ruled that an existing heart condition, combined with the compression to his chest when he was placed on the ground to be handcuffed, led to his death. Read more

Haake was guilty of being injured and refusing treatment — nothing more. That no charges will be filed against these officers is a travesty of justice and its a slap in the face of his poor family. This man’s civil liberties were obliterated and I hope his family files a civil lawsuit. This case deserves national attention, as it sets a very dangerous example.
