mottmon, no neal thinks the earth started from one object 5 miles in diameter and "grew" to its present diameter today. Not through accretion.

Actually... the earth did start from very small asteroids and grow to a full planet from repeated collisions by smaller asteroids... and then we got blown up by a Mars Sized planet, and reformed from the debris, which is why (supposedly) we have out moon.

Well it is possible, it could be somewhat both, but, I don't think that any 'Grow-Planet' theory could be this as extreme as depicted. The Tectonic Shift theory is just as much of a theory, both can be changed, and are not set in stone. XD isnt it odd Im only a High School Junior? But back on the point, the planets that have been found so far are generally Jovian Giants that are quite close to the star for the size of the plant, if I can remember right.
