@TheDuravida So. If the govt watches the people, and the people watch the govt, then let all people be the govt. People can govern themselves. But we need to believe we can. And we need to change the way we think and act. Many people now, and throughout history, have understood this and acted on it. And their lives have been better for it. Those who fought in the American War of Independence lived and died by this belief. And here we are.

@TheDuravida But all of that changed, and it wasnt "the govt" who changed the laws. Nor the police. It was the people who were affected by those bad laws. They showed that they would fight back. They proved that they were worthy of being treated as equals and not as animals. But thats just America. Injustice has been happening all over the world. And too often, its the people who are supposed to be protecting others who are the ones responsible for causing the most suffering. Look at Rome.

@TheDuravida Also, the "system of checks & balances" given in the US Constitution is just an idea. Its up to us to believe in it, & defend it if we choose to (& if we can). There was a time when institutional slavery was accepted in the USA. Then the slaves were freed, but they still couldnt vote. Nor could women. You had to own land to vote. So even some white men couldnt vote. There was a time when it was acceptable for the police to torture (waterboard) suspects as part of interrogation.

@TheDuravida Ultimately, "the government" is just a group of people. These people may be no different than millions of others you'd see working in any other profession. But for many invalid reasons, people who are not in "the govt" give preferential treatment to those who are. They're treated as elite. And many of them are paid enough from tax $ to live that way. This wasnt the way the USA was founded. All of those people had jobs and businessess not connected with their duty as officials.
